A Taste for Lures

My nephew went on a fishing trip to a private lake in Florida last spring with his Cub Scout troop and was lucky enough to catch this nice bass with his Pokémon kid’s rod and reel kit. He caught it on a plain old red plastic worm.

Nice one, huh?

But, the real surprise came later when they started to clean the fish to cook out later in the day. It seems that this particular largemouth bass had a taste for plastic lures. Just check out the stomach contents!

Not only did they find a small bait fish but they found 3 plastic lures as well! I’ve seen little fish in a bass’ stomach when I’ve cleaned them but I don’t recall ever seeing one with one, much less 3, lures in their gullet as well.

It just goes to show that kids always seem to catch the best fish of the day with their simple rigs while the adults with expensive gear go home empty handed. Plus, you never know what you might find in the belly of a bass.
